APAEP Alabama Prison Arts + Education Project

In 2016, Paul Brody, former Alabama resident, made a visit to Alabama in hopes of finding out what APAEP does and what education looks like inside facilities across the state. Our director, Kyes Stevens, took Brody to Elmore Correctional Facility and Tutwiler Prison for Women where he was able to visit a poetry class and the mural project. Not only did Brody listen, but he was also able to participate in class with our students. Brody interviewed APAEP staff, instructors, and students for a podcast episode, which explores the effects practicing creative writing and learning the humanities has on those who are incarcerated. If you are interested in learning more about his visit from Germany, listen to the podcast episode linked below. Or if you prefer, the link to read the transcripts of this podcast episode is also linked below!
